I’m loving the Ann Taylor zippered poncho I purchased early this season. It’s difficult to find petite-sized clothing that goes beyond the basics, so discovering this piece felt like coming upon that perfectly intact sand dollar while strolling the beach.
It’s a statement piece, but refined. Restraint is key to creating an effortless, chick look.
Here’s how I’ve worn it this season, remixing it up with pieces already in my closet:
An Edgy Night Out
Celebrating a friend’s birthday at some of our city’s hippest underground bars, I paired the poncho with black skinnies and gold-buckled boots. The cougar earrings added a touch of intriguing sparkle. It was a cold night, so a leopard coat and purple leather gloves added warmth and interest.
Shopping & Dinner
Out with the girls, I wanted something chic but casual (and comfortable!). Ripped boyfriend jeans and timeless accessories hit just the right note. Leopard print kitten heels made lots of walking possible, and quilted chain-handle bag just roomy enough.
Day to Evening
For a day of client meetings followed by a happy hour date, this outfit only required pulling out my clutch when leaving the office. I went with a flirty skirt and high-heeled suede boots – just the right amount of sex appeal while staying office appropriate. The beetle necklace kept a slightly edgy vibe.
A brain-storming session with our creative team required comfort and confidence. Red suede flats brought a pop of color, while the diamond stud earrings kept it sophisticated. The classic bowler bag is perfect for holding my iPad and other essentials without weighing me down.
